Comments from Alumni of our Summer Programs for High School Students:
It was everything you described and more … the academic aspects of the program were, from Sarah's vantage point, sensational, most especially the quality of the professors and the venues ... She experienced things she may never experience again. But it is clear the whole package prepared her better for the upcoming college life. Third, the RA's were, according to Sarah, top class and very supportive and professional.
Bill P., parent of Sarah P. - Boston, MA (Florence, Italy program alumna)
I felt that I learned a lot through my experience and the school that we attended. My Spanish has improved greatly. The teachers were very good and helpful. Almost all the excursions were awesome ... My favorite excursions were the jazz concert, windsurfing and mountain biking ... The staff was awesome, organized, fun and helpful. Really fun! Overall this was the best summer I've had in a long time ... Cádiz was the best!
Stephen, student - Sandy, UT (Cádiz, Spain program alumnus)
Andrew loved everything about the program, even the academics! The excursions, the cultural activities, the cooking, the free time, the location, [everything was] all the best ... Thank you so much for making this summer one of Andrew’s best. I was so impressed with the Abbey Road staff from start to finish.
Lisa P., parent of Andrew P. - Chicago, IL (Aix-en-Provence, France program alumnus)

HIGH SCHOOL STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM IN THE SPOTLIGHT!
|

The fast-paced Modern Civilization program is designed for motivated high school study abroad students interested in international relations, globalization and the global economy, European politics, journalism and debate. Over the course of this three week summer study abroad program, students will examine major developments in European history from World War II to the fall of the Berlin Wall as well as the formation of the modern European Union. Week one is spent in Prague and Berlin where students will explore the implications and aftermath of WWII on emerging European democracies and their relationship to the international community. The city of London plays host to the second week of our high school summer program, which will focus on the rise of the European superpowers. The final week is spent in Paris and addresses the formation of the European Union and the effect of globalization on contemporary E.U. policy making. All participants in our summer programs for high school students are enrolled in the daily Modern European History course which lays the framework for afternoon classes in which students choose between an emphasis on international relations and current world affairs or the global economy and E.U politics. Courses take place on site throughout the host cities. Debate-style discussion groups, college level lectures and investigative homework assignments encourage our high school summer study abroad students to constantly think outside the box and push their critical thinking skills to the limit.

HIGH SCHOOL STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM IN THE SPOTLIGHT!

The Florence high school study abroad program brings together students from all art backgrounds and levels. However, if you are not interested in art, you will have the option to enroll in the art history class or in an Italian language class. The art history course is taught on-location throughout the city of Florence. While learning about Michelangelo, you'll be in the Academia looking at the original David. Our high school summer study abroad students will see some of the most important artwork in the world! For art, the choices are: Drawing, Contemporary Mixed Media, or Oil Painting. The instructors are professional artists who also offer art activities and workshops throughout the program. From visiting local art galleries and colleges to marble papermaking, students love the artistic focus. Some summer study abroad students are coming to work on their art portfolios while others are really into art history; whichever your main interest is you will find that you fit in perfectly. You also get to experience different types of fun activities, events, workshops, cooking, etc. as well as have free time to hang out with your new friends. Our high school summer abroad apartment residence is two blocks from the San Lorenzo outdoor markets in an authentic Italian neighborhood. The residence is centrally located allowing students to walk to many historical sights. The apartments have kitchens so you will be learning to prepare some of the most delicious, Italian recipes.
