Summer Programs for High School Students:

One of our newest, and most unique, summer programs for high school students is the intriguiging Modern Civilization program designed for motivated students interested in international relations, globalization and the global economy, European politics, journalism and debate. Over the course of the three week program, students will examine major developments in European history from World War II to the fall of the Berlin Wall as well as the formation of the modern European Union. Week one is spent in Prague and Berlin where students will explore the implications and aftermath of WWII on emerging European democracies and their relationship to the international community. The city of London plays host to the second week of the program, which will focus on the rise of the European superpowers. The final week is spent in Paris and addresses the formation of the European Union and the effect of globalization on contemporary E.U. policy making. All program participants are enrolled in the daily Modern European History course which lays the framework for afternoon classes in which students choose between an emphasis on international relations and current world affairs or the global economy and E.U politics. Courses take place on site throughout the host cities. Debate-style discussion groups, college level lectures and investigative homework assignments encourage students to constantly think outside the box and push their critical thinking skills to the limit.
